There are a number of reasons we are encouraging Scouts and Scouters to take NRA classes. Chief among these reasons; we wish to encourage units to conduct shooting activities, and to do so in a safe and properly trained environment. In this vein, we are pleased to be able to offer a wide variety of classes, catering both to youths and adults. The Basic courses are just that - basic. These courses are open to both youth and adults registered with the Boy Scouts. Through these courses, you will learn the fundamentals of shooting safely and successfully. Why Take NRA Classes for Scouting Purposes? NRA Courses for Scouts and Scouters Training for Shooting Sports in Scouting The Instructor courses are a bit more advanced, and are open only to adults. Those courses are designed to hone your skills as an instructor. You will learn basic teaching techniques, as well as a variety of ways to improve and safely monitor shooting activities with your units. All courses are NRA courses, and not BSA courses. Certification as an NRA instructor allows you to conduct Basic level courses not just to Boy Scouts, but also to the community at large. In addition, these courses satisfy BSA Guide to Safe Scouting guidelines for BSA shooting activities.
