Wood Badge for the 21st Century
The Mt. Diablo Silverado Council is offering Wood Badge for the 21st Century this fall.
Wood Badge has evolved into the core leadership skills training course for the BSA. The new Wood Badge course focuses on strengthening every volunteer's ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults and is less focused on outdoor skills, which are more effectively addressed in other courses, such as those offered by our High Adventure Team.
Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat and Climb On Safely
These courses are designed to allow Scouters to lead safe and successful swimming, boating and climbing events. Current guidelines are available online in the Guide to Safe Scouting. For the next training dates, check Smoke Signals or contact your District Training Chair.
Basic Adult Leader Ourdoor Orientation (BALOO)
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation is a one-day training event that introduces Cub Scout parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct outdoor activities, particularly camping. Check Smoke Signals for the next training date.
High Adventure Team (HAT) Training
The High Adventure Team offers several training courses per year.
Each of the specialized training courses builds from the foundation gained by completion of the "HAT Core". This course (or having a HAT number) is a prerequisite for all other courses. Those attending the specialized trainings (Basic Backpacking, Okpik - Cold Weather Camping, Paddle Sports, Cycling, Climbing Instructor and Wilderness First Aid & CPR) will also be expected to have mastered the skills required to attain the merit badges for the activities prior to the course.
