Overview

This park is one of the ecological treasures of the San Francisco Bay Area. Discover for yourself the mountain's beautiful wildflowers, its extensive trail system, fascinating wildlife and distinctive rock formations. View the stars from its lofty heights, bike ride to its 3,849 foot summit or explore the more remote trails by horseback. The park offers hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping and rock climbing. Park hours are 8am to sunset.

How To Get There

South Gate Entrance: Take Highway 680 to Danville, then take Diablo Road exit, then 3 miles east to Mount Diablo Scenic Blvd.

North Gate Entrance: Take Highway 680 to Walnut Creek, then take Ygnacio Valley Road exit, then head west for 5 miles. Turn right onto Oak Grove road, then left onto North Gate Road approx. 1 mile later.

Parking for day hikes is available at the Summit, Mitchell Canyon Ranger Station and near the base of Donner Canyon.

Camping Facilities

Juniper, Live Oak and Junction Campgrounds: All campgrounds are located within the park and offer sites for $15/night, 8 people per site. Running water, showers and toilet facilities are available. Group campsites for 20 - 50 people are also available (no showers at group sites). Reservations can be made through ReserveAmerica at 1-800-444-7275 or online at http://www.reserveamerica.com/, except for Junction Campground, which is on a first come, first serve basis.
