National Youth Leadership Training

 

The training of youth leaders in Scouting is important to promote the growth of the individual Scout and a leadership model for the troop program. The Scoutmaster is the primary source of Youth Leader Training.  As a supplement to that training, the National Youth Leader Training conference provides youth with a one-week/two-weekend-long experience – a month in the life of a model Scout troop - designed to give potential youth leaders the skills they can use to help their troops. The objectives of the conference are to:

• Develop a Scout’s confidence and knowledge in leading the troop program.
  
• Gain working understanding of the resources, skills and methods needed to undertake further troop leadership responsibility.
  
• Share ideas and learn from the experiences of other Scouts from troops across the Council.
  
• Support Scoutmasters in training youth leaders in the troop.
  
• Reinforce a Scout’s relationship with his Scoutmaster and other adult leaders.
  
• Experience Scouting at its very best.

The Mt. Diablo Silverado Council is pleased to offer three National Youth Leader Training conferences every year. Scouts will learn the same valuable skills, based on the National NYLT syllabus, no matter which of the courses they attend. We hope you will take advantage of one of these wonderful opportunities.

 

Requirements:	Have achieved at least First Class rank 13 years old, minimum Annual Health and Medical Record, parts A, B, & C Unit Scoutmaster’s Approval
Cost:	$227 for in-council participants $252 for out-of-council participants

 

 

Winter NYLT

 

Winter NYLT is held at Camp Herms in El Cerrito, CA over two weekends in February for 32 participants, plus NYLT troop meetings on the evenings of January 28th and May 20th.

June NYLT is held at Camp Lindblad near Boulder Creek, CA over six days in June for 48 participants, plus NYLT troop meetings on the evenings of May 11th, and November 30th.
